Merseyside Police's Day of Action Targets Anti-Social Behaviour

Merseyside Police intensified efforts to combat anti-social behaviour in Clock Face with a comprehensive day of action on Tuesday, July 22.

Collaborating with community partners, officers aimed to reinforce their commitment to tackling crime and strengthening community relations.

The operation commenced at 10 a.m., with officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) from the St Helens Neighbourhood Policing Team assembling at Chester Lane Library.

They were joined by colleagues from the Mounted Section, the Rural Wildlife & Heritage Team, and representatives from organizations including Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, St Helens Borough Council, Rapid Relief, We are Cycling UK, and St Helens Wellbeing.

Uniformed officers patrolled the area to provide a visible presence and reassure residents, while a plain-clothes team proactively targeted known offenders.

During the operation, a suspected stolen Sur-Ron electric dirt bike was seized following the execution of a search warrant.

Officers also patrolled nearby woodland areas as part of Operation Gears, aiming to disrupt the anti-social and sometimes dangerous use of scrambler bikes.

Community partners and dedicated volunteers supported these efforts, working to make the streets and green spaces around Clock Face safer for everyone.

Inspector Stacey Pope of the Neighbourhood Policing Team at St Helens emphasized the importance of partnership working, stating, "Operations like today's demonstrate the strength of collaboration when police, community groups, and residents unite with a shared goal of making our neighbourhoods safer places to live and work."

She acknowledged the potential rise in crime and anti-social behaviour during the summer months and highlighted the operation's role in addressing these issues proactively.

The response from local residents was overwhelmingly positive, with many taking the opportunity to discuss issues affecting their daily lives with officers.

This direct engagement helps the police understand local priorities and ensures resources are focused where they're needed most.

Councillor Trisha Long, St Helens Borough Council's cabinet member for stronger communities, praised the collaborative effort, stating, "Supporting our partners on days of action like this is a great way of getting out into our neighbourhoods, communities, and green spaces together and speaking to residents about matters of safety."

She emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening partnerships and shaping future activities.

The support of the community is vital in helping Merseyside Police pursue offenders, prevent crime, and protect people.

Residents are encouraged to report information about crime or anti-social behaviour via the social media desk on X @MerPolCC or Facebook 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre', or by reporting on the Merseyside Police website.

Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
